Five-star performance by the Mysuru Warriors - 26/09/2016

Mysuru Warriors are on a roll as they take home their fifth win by beating the Belgavi Panthers by 34 runs. Led by right handed batsman Manish Pandey, the Warriors managed to defend their total of 142.

Belgavi Panthers won the toss and put the warriors up to bat first. Openers Bhatkal and Hoysala have been a good pair opening together and have been the foundation for the warriors. Today, the openers seemed to fall short as the ball and the bat just did not click for them, they both managed to get out making only 2 runs between them in 17 balls.

Skipper Manish Pandey knew that he had to step up and take charge of his team along with R Jonnathan. On a pitch that was not really suited for the batsmen, these two players managed to put up a much needed partnership of 79 runs in just 56 balls, this gave hope of putting up a fighting total.

Both Jonnathan and Pandey soon fell scoring 43 and 44 runs in just 35 balls respectively. This caused another decline for the warriors batsman. The men in yellow managed to pull through and stay at the crease for the 20 overs but lost all ten wickets.

It was all up to the bowlers to make some magic with the ball and defend the total of 142 runs. The Panthers came out to the crease looking to break the warriors winning streak but were shocked by bowling from the new Warrior Suraj Yadav.

Suraj Yadav, the new in- swing bowler showed everyone in the stadium that he did belong in the Warriors team as he managed to pick up three wickets in just two overs. For his spectacular swing bowling and adding pressure onto the Panthers, Yadav won his first Man of the Match trophy in his debut game for the Mysuru Warriors.

The warriors bowlers all stepped up and took their fair share of wickets and bowled maiden overs which added more pressure on the Panthers who were looking for a much needed partnership which they did not seem to get.

The slow- left arm orthodox bowler, J Suchith stepped up and managed to pick up three wickets in just one over which completely wrecked the Panthers innings. Suchith ended up with a bowling figures off 4 Overs, 26 Runs, 1 Maiden & grabbing 4 wickets. This performance ensured Suchith now has 9 wickets in the tournament and grabbed the Purple cap.

Though the bowling of the Balgavi Panthers was exceptional, as they managed to restrict the Warriors to a total of 142, their lowest total yet it was not enough to beat the unbeaten team this KPL.

On a pitch where the ball wasn't crossing the boundary regularly, the warriors Pandey and Jonathan made it look exceptionally easy. Their partnership was what took the men in yellow to a defendable total and their fifth consecutive victory. They are currently at the top of the tableand the team to beat in the Karnataka Premier League 2016 as of now. As a result of 5 wins on the trot Warriors are now the 1st team to qualify for the semis.
