Ranji Trophy - 20/10/2016

When one talks about cricket, it is mostly about the international forms of cricket but the domestic form of cricket is equally gripping and good. The Ranji Trophy is one of the first class forms of domestic cricket that tests the players in their strength, stamina and skill both mentally and physically. It gets the players ready before entering the international scene.

Played over 3-4 days, the Ranji Trophy is actually the ‘Ultimate test’ for any cricketer. The Ranji trophy season goes on for a while, with players representing their state. All the teams are strong this season but the clash between Jharkhand and Karnataka was a unique clash of its own. Even though Karnataka had a head start and were in the lead at the end of the first innings by over 200 runs, the match finished as a draw.

The match started and gained support from the crowd. Karnataka had a fantastic bowling spell by getting Jharkhand all out for just 374. The spinners made all the difference as they restricted the Jharkhand batsman from putting up a very large total.

K Gowtham, the spinner who still is in fantastic form after his stint with the Mysuru Warriors, managed to help restrict the Jharkhand batsman by bowling maiden overs at the crucial times. Though he picked up only 3 wickets with the ball, his bowling spell of 10 maiden overs at the curtail points helped Karnataka reach a grander total in the first innings.

“It was a good comeback for (K) Gowtham.” Said the Karnataka Captain, R. Vinay Kumar. Gowtham bowled a fantastic spell of 3 wickets for just 97 runs in his 32.1 overs. Which ultimately helped Karnataka take the lead after the first innings.

The Ranji Trophy is a tournament that sets the bar and helps the players experience what it feels like to play in a bigger form of cricket and show that the players are actually ready to take on the big matches.

Gowtham has shown his style and game for the Mysuru Warriors in the Karnataka premier league where he had a brilliant season with both the bat and the ball. Now his eyes are set on the Ranji Trophy and he will try and stay in form and have another amazing season.
