A new Warrior Team - 22/08/2017

Nitanti Alur

August, the month when cricket fans all gather around and cheer the local talent on. This August brought the Karnataka Premier League auction back into the hands of the KSCA at the M Chinannaswamy stadium where 215 players went under the hammer and well- known cricket commentator Charu Sharma felicitated the Auction.

The Warriors were all set to put up their paddles and fight off the 6 other teams and make an all-round Warrior team that could bring the coveted Karnataka Premier League trophy back to Mysore as they did in the first season. It was a whole new ball game and the warriors wanted to make the best team they possibly could.

As the popular saying goes, slow and steady wins the race; that’s exactly what the Warriors did, not being in a hurry to bid for the first few players, they opened their bidding with the right-handed batsman, who recently scored 303 runs against Australia in a Test match; Karun Nair. Though there was heavy bidding for Nair, he ultimately joined the warriors for the upcoming season. Shreyas Gopal was another major addition to the Warriors squad.

The Warriors fought hard to bring back two of their star bowlers who both took 4 wicket hauls in the 2016 season, Suchith J (Mysore Talent) and Vyshak Vijaykumar (the youngest player, 17 years when he debuted for the warriors in the 2014 season.) The last player the warriors bought in pool A was Suneel Raju, the all-rounder. After a massive fight with paddles not being put down, Raju will wear the yellow jersey for the next season.

Pool A soon ended with the warriors having a good all-round pool of strong and capable talent. Pool B brought in new excitement with every team knowing who exactly they wanted, there was a massive fight between 3 teams for Arjun Hoysala, who had 2 fantastic seasons with the Warriors and is also a great performer in the local league; at the end Hoysala was regained by the warriors. The warriors also bought Prateeksh Raj, Manjunath SP, Shrijith KL and Avinash KC also put on the yellow jersey as capable batsman who can help the warriors bring the championship back home. The great finisher who can unleash havoc on the opponents Bharath NP returns to the Warrior squad after the first season.

No cricket team is complete without its collection of bowlers and though the Warriors had a pool to choose from, they limited themselves and fought hard for the players they wanted bringing back Kushal Wadhwani, the spinner and Nikith S, the medium fast bowler. They also added Akshay SL, Vineet Yadav, Ram Sarikh Yadav, Vikas Kumar Sinha and the Gujrat lion’s bowler mystery bowler who has a wrong arm action and resembles Paul Adams, Shivil Kaushikinto their bowling attack.

The Men in yellow came out of the auction room with a smile on their faces, with the hopes that the team they had just put together could get Mysuru another championship. “We are excited about the way our team has shaped up. We have ensured that the team has a balance of fresh talent and experienced players. The selectors have assembled a fine set of players and it will be quite amazing to see them perform during the league. We wish all the luck to the teams and hope to see some exceptional cricket this edition.” Said Mr. Arjun Ranga, Owner of Mysuru Warriors and Managing Director of Cycle Pure Agarbathies.

The KPL season will kick off in Bengaluru on the 1st of September with matches being played in Mysuru and Hubali as well. The 25 matches between 7 full all-round teams promises to be full of excitement where ultimately one deserving winner will be crowned as the KPL Champions. The Warriors are all set to go and be a true warrior and show what they're made off on the cricket field.
