Warriors seal the deal in Bengaluru - 11/09/2017

Nitanti Alur

The rain gods seemed to be showering down their blessings during the second match of the KPL as the Men in Yellow took on the new home team, the Kalyani Bengaluru Blasters. The Warriors were all set to go out and play a brilliant first game, but rain kept delaying the start of the match.

After many prayers from both the teams and the fans, an 8 over match was scheduled to happen and what unraveled next at the M Chinneswamy stadium was a pleasure to watch and made up for the delayed start. It was a perfect start for the Warrior despite losing the toss.

Skipper Karun Nair and Left-Hand Batsman, Arjun Hoysala walked into the middle with their eyes set on a great total. The energy could be clearly seen as the ball was sent across the boundary multiple times. Hoysala proved that he is the master with the bat and sent the ball whacking in all directions, adding 12 runs in 2 balls with back to back sixes. Bengaluru soon broke through with right arm off spinner Manjesh Reddy coming into the attack but his bowling was punished for a four bringing Hoysala to 14 runs in 14 balls.

Pace was re-introduced as Koushik managed to get the better of Hoysala by deceiving the batsman and sending one wide towards off stump where the energetic Hoysala had to depart for 31 from just 18 balls. With just two overs left, the Warriors tried their hardest and did not hold back; Manjunath Sp played his typical game by hitting shots at the perfect time, ending his spell of 18 runs from just 7 balls. With the last six balls to spare, Bengaluru Blasters put the ball in the talented Prasidh's hands who bowled fantastically to allow the Blasters an achievable total. The warriors walked back to the dug out with smiles on their faces; 84/5 in 8.0 overs was a great and defendable score.

The Men in Yellow proved to be great with the ball as well by striking early and restricting the Blasters from putting up partnerships. The Blasters seemed to be struggling as they lost their skipper R Samarth who was dismissed without troubling the score in the fourth delivery of the innings and Rajoo Bhatkal, the previous Mysuru Warriors star fell short to the Warriors bowling and had to depart for 1 off just 6 balls. Vyshak Vijay Kumar proved his talent and managed to frustrate the batsman with his continuous change up in lengths. NP Bhareth then saw off the important Shishir Bhavane for duck and Bengaluru were in trouble at 8 for 3.

The blasters never really recovered as the Men in Yellow kept things tight and there was no denying the Warriors dominance throughout the match. Arjun Hoysala proved to be the star as he has the highest number of runs (31 off 18) from both the teams, also earning him the Man of the match award. “It was a very tough match and we knew we are gonna to take on the bowlers right from ball one and glad it came off. I'm just trying to stay fit and focused.” Said Arjun.

“I was happy with the total. All credit goes to the grounds men, the way they got the ground ready in quick time was just amazing. We were just staying calm and looking at it ball by ball. The wicket was a bit tough and to get 84 on that track was brilliant.” Said Karun Nair. All matches are hard but the Warriors started off their Karnataka Premier League season perfectly.

The rain might have delayed the start but the gods showered their blessings on the Warriors allowing them to walk home with their first win.
